Francis Maere Fine Arts presents Conrad Willems: Construction VII at BRAFA 2025

Conrad Willems’ Construction VII is a captivating synthesis of sculpture, drawing, and performance. Drawing from his lifelong passion for movement and building, Willems bridges the disciplines of architecture, art, and choreography to create modular stone sculptures that are both monumental and deeply personal. Each piece in the Construction series is built live in front of an audience, through a semi-choreographed performance that highlights the artist’s physical engagement with the material. The act of stacking and assembling stone blocks becomes a creative dance, reflecting his background in ballet and tango. The building blocks of his sculptures are inspired by the iconic Fröbel toys, reimagined and refined in natural stone such as Belgian fossil, travertine, or Calacatta Oro marble....
