The silhouettes of the decorations on the façades of the Cà Brüta (literally Ugly House, the building that would later be recognized as the Manifesto of Italian 20th-century Novecento movement and one of the visual symbols of the city of Milan) will serve as the backdrop for the Primitivist exhibition by Dalton Somaré Gallery at the 2025 edition of BRAFA. By referencing the Cà Brüta (1922), designed by Giovanni Muzio, our great-grandfather, we sought to return to the artistic roots of our family and the cultural influences that have guided the activity of our Gallery: namely, to highlight the continuous and fruitful dialogue that has connected the formal austerity and anti-rhetorical approach of Modernism with the conceptual synthesis of the forms created by artists we still persist to call “primitive”. Our great-grandfather, while in Paris, was acquainted with Max Jacob, Apollinaire and the Avant-Guarde mileu and later, in Italy, with De Chirico and Carrà. Through this exhibition, we aimed to recreate a metaphysical and timeless atmosphere, where the dialogue between modernity and the “primitive” sculptures created by anonymous artists reveals its contemporaneity.

For over 30 years, the Dalton Somaré Gallery has provided an opportunity to encounter Haute Epoque African Art and Hindu-Buddhist Ancient Art and to discover their artistic relevance in the panorama of 21st-century art. As an international gallery based in the centre of Milan, a cosmopolitan city and amongst the leading European capitals of style and art, Dalton Somaré encourages the discovery of new aesthetic languages. It is aimed at art lovers who are looking for works of great historical-cultural intensity and are open to a more contemporary vision of collecting. The search for the highest examples and the most representative works of art, as well as the refined and eclectic approach, make Dalton Somaré one of the most dynamic and fascinating galleries on the international scene. Since 1999, the Gallery has taken part in the most important international events focused on Primitive and Oriental Art (Badnea / Bruneaf-Brussels, Tribal and Textile Arts-San Francisco, Arts of the Pacific Asia Show-San Francisco, International Tribal Antiques-New York, Arts of Pacific Asia Show-New York, Kaos / Parcours des Mondes-Paris, Asia Week New York, Asian Art in London). Since 2019, Dalton Somaré has also been present at BRAFA. The gallery is directed by Tomaso and Gerolamo Vigorelli.
