BRAFA 2024: a rare Lynn Chadwick sculpture revealed
Tune in as Tania Sutton, Director of Osborne Samuel Gallery, delves into an exceptional Lynn Chadwick bird sculpture of 1958, now to be seen at the BRAFA Art Fair 2024.
Osborne Samuel is a long-established gallery and one of London’s leading specialists in Modern British painting and sculpture. This semi-abstracted winged figure, which they present on their stand 6 at the international BRAFA Art Fair, continues to develop some of the imagery seen in Chadwick’s work of the early 1950s, a period during which Chadwick began to create a menagerie of fantastical beasts. See how magnificently it's captured mid-launch, as beating wings lift its body into the air. It is a being which straddles the divide between the familiar and unfamiliar: with a recognisable form which represents that of a bird, but with the angular armature which is more in line with its prehistoric predecessor.
Make it to BRAFA 2024 at Brussels Expo until 4 February to see these and many more treasures up close.

Spectacular Alberto Giacometti bowl revealed at BRAFA 2024
Not to be missed at this year's BRAFA Art Fair, a unique bowl by Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966), presented by Céline Mathivet of Galerie Mathivet.
With its spectacular dimensions, this circa 1948 coupe "Oblongue" is at once a bowl and a sculpture. It gives the feeling of a freshly unearthed artefact and moves between a sculpture and an everyday object. Swiss sculptor, painter, draughtsman and printmaker Alberto Giacometti was one of the most important sculptors of the 20th century. His work was mainly influenced by artistic styles such as cubism and surrealism. Philosophical questions about the human condition and existential and phenomenological debates played an important role in his work. He is particularly widely known for his figurative œuvre that is iconic and of an incomparable style.
Visit the BRAFA Art Fair at Brussels Expo until 4 February 2024 and make sure to spot this highlight at the Mathivet Gallery.

Join Harold t' Kint de Roodenbeeke, BRAFA's Chairman and specialist in 20th-century modern art, as he unveils one of the unmissable pieces to be discovered at the upcoming BRAFA Art Fair from 28 January - 4 February.

With a heterogeneous collection of works from different eras and, thanks to the guest of honour the Paul Delvaux Foundation, a thematic and historical exhibition around this artist, the 2024 edition of BRAFA will be an absolute must-visit to open the artistic season with. Last but not least, the specific, surrealistic setting promises to surprise.

Gilbert & George insights as BRAFA 2019 Guest of Honour
The international BRAFA Art Fair is proud to welcome Gilbert & George as Guest of Honour of its 2019 edition (Tour & Taxis, Brussels, 26 January - 3 February). On this occasion, the international renowned duo opened the doors to their London studio to shed light onto their creative process, marked by using "our head, our souls and our sex". Hence, the ideal viewers of Gilbert & George's pictures will read the visuals using their heads, souls and sex.
In the half century that they have lived and created art together as Living Sculptures, embarked on a visionary journey through the modern world, always together and always alone, Gilbert & George have created fiercely singular Anti-Art that is poetic, primal and emotionally driven.
At BRAFA 2019, they will present five recent large-scale works that will be placed at various spots throughout the fair. Their quirky vision of the world is sure to be a hit in the land of surrealism!
The five pictures that will be presented have all been selected by Gilbert & George. There are from big scaled recent series: the ‘Jack Freak Pictures’ (2008), the ‘London Pictures’ (2010), the ‘Scapegoating Pictures’ (2013) and the ‘Beard Pictures’ (2016).

Gilbert & George celebrate becoming BRAFA's Guest of Honour in 2019...
The international BRAFA Art Fair is proud to welcome Gilbert & George as Guest of Honour of its 2019 edition (Tour & Taxis, Brussels, 26 January - 3 February).
In the half century that they have lived and created art together as Living Sculptures, embarked on a visionary journey through the modern world, always together and always alone, Gilbert & George have created fiercely singular Anti-Art that is poetic, primal and emotionally driven.
Having started out as performance artists, they became famous for their large-scale photo pieces. These are often in very bright colours with superimposed black gridlines evoking the windows of yesteryear. The images are contemporary and immediately recognisable, with most placing portraits of both artists in the picture.
Although their art draws inspiration from (their) daily life, the vision they offer is in turns metaphysical, mystical, or polemical, but always with a touch of humour and conveying a message.
