MARUANI MERCIER is delighted to present Romantic Comedy, the exhibition of new paintings by Pam Glick, opening on April 23 at our Brussels gallery. This is the artist’s first solo exhibition with the gallery and her first in Belgium. Constructed in vibrant blocks of carefully selected hues of pink, orange, green, and blue, the paintings in Romantic Comedy are resolutely celebratory, projecting a sense of joy and unimpeded rhythm. Quilt-like, the paintings evoke accumulations of flashes of human experience and echo the orthogonal patterns of the New York streets. Addressing the legacy of Modernism and the history of abstract painting, Glick embraces the free momentum of the hand and body in the undulating lines, locating the authentic and immediate expression of being in the world...
About the artist: Glick's paintings respond to landscapes which she describes as “the perfect blend of physical and spiritual.” Her work emerges through improvisation and free association, capturing a deep yet surprising connection to nature. Born in Albany, Georgia, in 1956, Glick studied Painting at Rhode Island School of Design in 1980 and earned her MFA from the University of Buffalo in 2019. In 1995, Glick moved to Vermont, focusing on collage and works on paper, and later had an artist residency in Budapest in 2019. Her work is part of several collections, including the Buffalo AKG Art Museum, The Broad, and Deutsche Bank.

ABOUT
MARUANI MERCIER werd opgericht in 1995 en vertegenwoordigt 23 hedendaagse kunstenaars naast haar historische tentoonstellingen van museumkwaliteit, voortbouwend op de erfenis van verschillende gerenommeerde nalatenschappen. Aanvankelijk richtte de galerie zich op gevierde Amerikaanse kunstenaars uit de jaren 1980, waaronder Ross Bleckner, Francesco Clemente, Ron Gorchov, Peter Halley, Jonathan Lasker en Sue Williams. In de loop der jaren omarmde de galerie een nieuwe generatie kunstenaars zoals Radcliffe Bailey, Jaclyn Conley en Tony Matelli. De uitbreiding naar Knokke en de opening van een tentoonstellingsruimte en residentieprogramma in Zaventem introduceerden kunstenaars uit West-Afrika zoals Kwesi Botchway en Johnson Eziefula. In 2022 werd een vierde ruimte geopend in Knokke om moderne meesters als Alexander Calder, Le Corbusier en Joan Miró tentoon te stellen.
